Winter Plate Banner

Different!

That is what I like to do...

Something different...

Not the same ol' thing!

I have made banners for Spring...

I have made banners for Summer...
I have made banners for Autumn...
Now it was time to make a banner for Winter...
But that's when I decided to be different. It was still going to act like a banner but be a singular piece! What? Oh yes, a plate.
Here is how I made this piece. First, I took an old plate that is oven safe.
Using a drill and a special ceramic drill bit (purchased at Lowes), I drilled two holes. Easy to do as long as you keep the drill bit moist. In this case, I drilled it under water, making sure to only keep the drill bit in the water NOT the drill.
Here are the small holes it made.
Then I took regular Sharpie markers,
And drew my design on the plate.
After completed, just place the plate on a cookie sheet and bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes and it is permanent!
Then using some twine, I tied it through the holes and hung it from the vintage window.
IDEA: This same technique can be used and with a ribbon, hung from a nail on the wall.
Or you don't even have to drill the holes, you could hang using a plate holder or easel.

  8. Very creative Terry. I didn't know about baking the permanent marker. Do you know if it would be food safe after that? Thanks for sharing this at What We Accomplished Wednesdays! Have a super week!
